Water, Water and more Water...

This is one of the issues in our household, DH and our little girl don't drink enough water. I keep on telling them that water is very important specially this time of the year where the body requires more water because of the cold weather.
Children tend to dehydrate faster than adults. Because kids don't cool down as efficiently as adults, they tend to overheat easily and therefore need to be encouraged to drink often. Elementary- aged children should consume between 7 1/2 to 10 1/2 cups of hydrating fluids everyday. One of the easiest and most healthful fluids is water. Our bodies loose large amounts of water each day, which must be replaced. We simply can't survive very long without it. Water is essential for just about every body function, such as helping us digest food, helping us use vitamins, and in making saliva, which helps prevent against tooth decay. By the time you feel thirsty, you may already be dehydrated, so it's important to keep sipping throughout the day on refreshing, thirst-quenching water.
