My little girl can play for long hours just by herself as long as there is kid's music in the background. Music has the ability to comfort and soothe children. They often sing to themselves as a way to self-soothe. I use the children's song when she gets cranky. It really helps. Toddlers and preschoolers love rhymes and songs.
