Not too long ago we were out in our yard to stargaze. It was late night but unfortunately we didn't enjoy it much because of the bright light. Bright and uncontrolled nighttime lighting practices, especially in our large cities have severely reduced the ability to see the sky at night. How beautiful it is if we could enjoy the formation of the stars at night. Light pollution is already troubling to amateur astronomers, who can no longer enjoy using telescopes from their backyards. It is great to have an out- of- this- world event like the Dark Sky Festival at Harmony, Florida. Its purpose is to expose the general public the marvels of astronomy and the importance of protecting dark skies. It is not just for astronomy purposes, but also for the values that darkness provides to area wildlife. This will be held outdoors in low light conditions on the streets, sidewalks and park located at Town Harmony Square. This is a free parking and free admission event. This event is a good opportunity for us to see objects in the sky and have someone there to guide us. There will be some performances but the highlight of this event would be about fighting light pollution. This will surely be a fun, entertaining and educational event. Mark your calendar- This will be held on April 25, 2009 – Saturday from 6:00PM-11:00PM
