Swine Flu Outbreak

The news about Swine Flu is all over the globe. Everybody is talking about it. I heard the news this morning that Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan and Nevada joined the list of states with the new cases, Texas said its total has now climbed to 16 cases, New York has 51, and California has 14. This is pretty scary. But what exactly is swine flu? It has been identified as a type A influenza that has taken pieces of influenza viruses from pigs, birds, and humans and combined them into a new virus. These sorts of viruses often evolve into a pandemic. It has the potential to spread widely because humans haven't been exposed to it before and they haven't developed any resistance. But at this point we don't know if this particular virus will spread widely and if it does we don't know how severe it will be. We have to do our utmost precaution on this matter. Do some preventive measures like washing hands, covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing and staying away from the crowded places if possible. Having a preparedness kits at home such as swine flu kits is a good idea so we can better protect ourselves and our family.
